Not new but new lol
Hi guys just re joining , I was a avid user on here years ago when I had my 2008 Xkr. I haven’t had that car for over 4 years but I’m thinking about buying a 2013 XKR. Only thing holding me back is the tech in newer cars and the unpredictable depreciation that may come with the Xkr. Anyhow I will look forward to opinions on reliability on the newer engine and models vs my old 2008. It’s buying the car for such and such amount and then going to trade it in and getting killed. I’m Canada the black book says the car 2013 Xkr with extra low miles is worth 46k trade in value. They want 60-70k for them still at dealerships. That’s a bit of a mark up and I know it’s supppy and demand but it never is when they quote you a trade in and theses cars are hard to sell privately . In west coast of Canada anyhow.
Welcome back to the forum Chromey35,
No need for any links from me as I'm sure you will be familiar with the relevant Model and Region forums.
I won't attempt to comment on used XK values in Canada as the depreciation is entirely different from that here in the UK. However, a CPO, one owner XK/XKR with low miles is going to be 'over book' anywhere in the World.
After four years with a 2007 XK, I PX'd it with a Jaguar Dealer for a one owner 2014 (2015MY) last December. I know I'll take a big hit financially on it over the next three years but nowhere near as big as the first owner did over same period.
The XK reliability cycle is different from other Jaguar models. The original 4.2 was introduced with a proven powertrain carried over from the XK8 and an aluminium body build process that had been developed and perfected with the X350. It started life as a high reliability package.
A dip in reliability came with the introduction of the 5.0 litre and I made the decision to avoid 2009/11 vehicles for this reason.
Production ended with the last vehicle off the line on 24th July 2014. I've reasoned that for the XK, as happened with the preceeding XK8 model, the final year of production is the best developed and will prove to be the most reliable.
I'm not a slave to low mileage for its own sake, preferring a regularly lightly used example. As has been proved on the forum countless times with every Jaguar model, regularly used vehicles give nowhere near the same issues as those which trouble the garage queens.
Maintenance history of the later vehicles is entirely online and this removes much of the doubt over the old stamped paper service books. A 2013 could have just missed out on the change to online but a low mileage example should have had four services at 12 month intervals regardless of it being on the road, sitting in the owner's garage or the dealer's showroom.
