Default My daughters "new" Jag

We don,t own it yet but I have found my daughter an ultra low miliage 2007 XK convertible. Looked at it last weekend and except for a little dust in the engine compartment ,the car looks showroom new. I am not a foreign car guy (old Impalas are more my speed) but these XKs are an awesome looking car and she has always wanted one and can now afford it. Or can she? I've heard alot of bad things about these cars and all the other upscale model dealers point out the Jags resale value as proof of its problems. However, she has fallen in love and we will be test driving the car this weekend. Anyone want to give me a heads up on what to look and listen for? Also, she lives over an hour from the nearest Jag dealer. Can a good local foreign car shop be trusted with one of these cars ? Thanks

"all the other upscale model dealers..." What a shock!
The other guys want to sell you a car so they wouldn't be telling you that a Jaguar is a good idea, would they.

Welcome from ElinorB.

Welcome Hunky, I'm new to Jaguars and this forum myself, but my wife and I have owned more than a few Porsches, BMWs, Z cars, etc.. A couple of things regarding resale value from our perspective. We hardly ever buy new cars or bikes. We let the other guy take the depreciation hit or expensive lease, then step in to buy the car. The more depreciation, the better for us. The other thing is that we don't collect investment cars, we buy them to love, care for, and drive! Having said that, we don't buy just anything, and we don't shop bargin basement (check out my new-to-me 2005 XKR). We are currently looking for a 2012-2013 demo or certified pre-owned Audi S5 cabriolet for my wife. Fortunately, there's a 10-15k first year depreciation hit on the S5. I really don't care what I can sell it for in 4 or 5 years, and I am confident regarding the risk/reward for the recurring maintenance cost.

Bottom line, if your daughter has really connected with the XK and if the car is not a salvage title or something like that, check out the maintenance experiences here and at other Jaguar sites, then consider giving it a go. Sometimes listening to the heart is better than regretting what never was.

Best Regards, Fred

Despite being the first model year, the '07 XK was an extremely well designed and reliable car....on of the most reliable Jag ever made.

Please read up and participate in the XK/XKR model specific section of the forum for more discussion on these cars.

Like any vehicle, there a few known vulnerabilities, but on this car they are pretty scarce.
