My "NEW" XJ40
Greetings to all...
A month ago I would not have believed what I did today!
Hitched a ride 275 miles up to Denver, Colorado, USA and purchased a 1990
XJ40 Sovereign.
This is my third British Vehicle. In 1962 I had a 1957 Norton 600cc Bike, then in 1999 a Delorean.
My recreation has been owning and rebuilding Chevrolet Corvairs and Pontiac Fieros
But since I am getting up in my late 60's a nice riding and stylish vehicle was desired. A good friend told me about the Jaguars he has owned, that sparked my interest. I always liked the Jag's, so I started heavy research on them, mainly reading threads on this web site and driver reports on the Internet. Basically it got down to the 1990 to 1994 XJ6 (XJ40) Models.
Search of E-Bay, Craigs List and other sales sites brought me to this one up north of Denver.
175,000 miles, no damage history, Paint at 90% interior Prefect except for hanging headliner ( Gee we have never seen that! ) Jaguar Dealer Serviced it's whole life ( 4 inch high stack of receipts included ) Top notch condition, one 2 inch rust bubble in front of right door, and one other minor scratch.
Runs like a clock....
Just got back home with it, 275 miles, 9 US Gal. of gas - 30 mpg - And this was out of Denver, over a 10,000 foot pass and another 9,000 ft pass. all at legal speed limits of 75 down to 55 mph. Darn I could not believe it!
After 5 nonstop hours, I was not tired or had body stiffness ( my usual condition ) wonderful ride, great seats and the best fun I have had in a car since I figured what back seats were for when I was 17...
It powered up 7 % grades at 60 mph in top gear like it was nothing..
Boy am I happy.......
Guess I will be around here for awhile...

Usually when one receives photos they look better than what the automobile actually is, this one was the opposite. It was far better than the photos.
I cannot believe the condition of the interior. One minor wear spot on the driver's arm rest and color warn off a small patch of the edge of the drivers seat. A minor crack of the wood work next to the ash tray. Headliner loose but in great condition.
He took it in to the Jaguar Dealer at least twice a year for service, and did all recommended services. What else can a new purchaser ask for?
Now back to the books to keep improving my knowledge about this fine automobile.

Good to see you.
Fantastic looking XJ40.
A 65+ year old, hitch hiking bloke, buys an XJ40, returns no bad back, and has our secret mpg. There's hope for me yet.
