New to forum(ing) and Jaguar :)
Hello to all, I am Tom and in need of major help
--------
I purchased a 1999 XK8 that was barely running and had been sitting 3 yrs after engine rebuild done incorrectly.
-----------
Once I got it home and tore it apart I realized that it was mis-timed which caused the intake valve on #4 to blow through the piston...
-----------
So, I have removed and replaced #4; thankfully the cylinder is ok; i have purchased a good used head and am getting ready to install it
-----------
That's the back story so here's the dilemma and I'd like some advise on where to post to get the best responses (hopefully with pictures
)
-----------
Dilemma: with the new head obviously any markings will not match up so I do not know how to get the engine back in time. (engine has been spun unintentionally) I do not have the JAG "tools" but the main one I am needing and info on how to is the crankshaft alignment tool. Also do all 4 cams align equally meaning do all four flat spots face in the same direction or find TDC of #1 and install cams accordingly? I have not removed left side head or timing chains or tensioners only passenger side (right)

I can see you've already found the XK8/XKR tech forum so no need for a link. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic by following this link Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

welcome to the forum and the Jag family! Plenty of info and support here just follow the links provided. I see you are in SC - from a fellow Carolinian welcome and what part of the state? If in the Charleston area, can provide a great indie source for parts and or assist if needed. Hope to see you get her back on the road soon.
