Hey there,

I'm from Windermere Florida and picked up a 2010 XF a little over a year ago. I added a couple 10" subwoofers to the car and blacked out the tail lights (which I removed since getting pulled over, they were a bit too dark, I need to apply and go a little lighter).

I came here looking to see if anyone has any insight on upgrading the alarm system. Last sunday I was at a Mcdonalds off of I-95 and had someone smash the window out to steal the girlfriends purse/ipad mini/cash/jewelry, you name it. The alarm never went off.

I asked my service advisor if there were any alarm upgrades to include window break / pressure sensors and he said not that he knew of. I also called Ultimate Auto, the local customization shop where I had my subwoofers installed, and they told me I would essentially have to have a secondary alarm system installed on top of the factory, and use 2 remotes to lock the car, which would suck.

Does anyone know if these folks are wrong and there is a way to upgrade the factory alarm with additional sensors?

There are pressure sensors out there for sale for Viper systems for dirt cheap. It would be sweet if one of those could be hooked up to a cell phone and if it goes off, it sends a text or something.

Anyone have any ideas? There has to be a way. It seems ridiculous that Jaguar wouldn't have the ability to detect broken glass/pressure changes/motion sensors, SOMETHING!

Anyways, glad to be a part of the forums!

Welcome to the forum wonders83,

Sorry to hear about the break-in. Alarm system functions are market specific and it sounds like yours is different from our UK system. Here is the section from the Owners Handbook for the 2010 UK specification XF. I've arrowed the section where it explains glass breakage will trigger the alarm if the system is fully armed.

If this facility is not available in the US, it may be possible to have the UK spec alarm fitted. Alternatively, this could even be a dealer activated option in the US spec.

Follow this link XF and XFR ( X250 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X250 section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Lower Atlantic Region section by following this link Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forum.

hey Graham I appreciate that info. Like I said I asked my service guy before and he said they couldn't do anything. I'm going to print out that part from the manual and see if I can't get the car car fit with UK specs.

I hate how the cars come with different specs with regards to alarms. That seems like a pretty universal feature to have no matter where you live! I've searched around and there really isn't much information out there about modifying the alarm at all. You'd think other folks in the US would share the same concerns.

Thanks again for all the welcomes. I've found tons of great information on here so far. Definitely a great resource to have as a Jaguar owner and aficionado.

I've checked your User Profile in our Moderator Control Panel and there's no SigPic showing up.

Is the image within the size limits? It must be within 500 x 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller).

Thanks Cat man Do, I'll keep an eye out.

I think the signature might be working now, I uploaded the pic but didn't click the "add to signature" part.

I'll definitely take a peak around the regional section. Just glad I get my car back today! It's been a week since I took it to Jaguar and the wrong window kept getting delivered :/
