Default New to Forums & Fairly New to Jaguars

Hi,

I have always been a German car fan, however strayed and bought my first Jaguar 8 months ago, it was the V8 4 litre S type (flipping quick in a straight line). I only bought that because I could not find an XJ8 in the condition, colour, mileage, area etc.. I wanted. But I found one 3 months ago and swapped - the lines on a 98 XJ8 Sport are stunning, it really is a good looking car.

So I have it now in colour coded silver, with silver trim not chrome and silver / grey leather. It looks sleek and is a very good example cosmetically.

The engine is very quick, responsive & quiet as is the auto box. So mechanically in my opinion its in pretty good shape. I do a bit of homework before buying a car, but you do get a lot of car for your money.

Now all I am hearing / reading about these cars and their V8 engines is doom and gloom. There was an engineering error on the V8 construction so they suffer severe pre-tensioner trouble - apparently.
And the engine lining is collapsing because of the massive Nikasil fault which basically rights your engine off.

My car looks great, goes like a rocket and has 108,700 on the clock - When is it going to start disintegrating? Or do Jaguar owners just like moaning and finding fault with things? I had to buy a Mercedes yesterday just in case!

Regards,

Well, firstly, welcome to the forums. You're at a good place to quench your thirsty curiosity regarding this car. S-Types are nice cars, and the V8 had some good stories to tell. How about some more statistics of exactly what you bought - circa, other info? Then, head over to the S-Type forum, and research too as this site is a wealth of information.

All the Best,

PS: In my case, I've a spare BMW...and two other spare Jaguars to back mine up - LOL!
