Default MI transplant in TX

Hi all,
(I missed the intro forum and posted some of this in the regional forum)

Prior to moving to Texas 6 years ago, I worked for my Dad in Michigan restoring vintage cars, a great many of which were British sportscars. I think I did my first bodywork on an E-type when I was 8 or 9. I've worked on a handfull of E-types, mostly series 1, an xk150, a MK10, and a MK2, most of which were full bare-metal restorations. We did a fair number of MGs (a few As, a few TDs) and a few Austins (both 3000 MK1s, if memory serves). My Dad has a client with a large Porche 356 collection that we did a bunch of work for and he continues to do work for, some really adventurous stuff: 986-550 | Issue 205 | Excellence
I moved down here before we finished the car, but I was still helping with some of the engineering and sourcing details. That was my Dad's baby for the better part of 4 years so I can't take hardly any credit on the bodywork, but it did give me an opportunity to take on one of the aforementioned Austins mostly on my own. That was a fun project as the owner was fairly involved and is a hell of a nice guy.

I just bought a '59 MK1 3.4 auto and a 86 XJS-12 at an auction here in Waco today, both basket cases.

The mechanicals are a new thing for me as we just did autobody and interior, so I may need some guidance in that regard as I move forward. I plan on keeping the MK1 for a while, either restoring it or doing a full-on custom depending on what I find after I gut the interior. The XJS will move along in short order, if anyone's interested in parts.

Thanks for hosting this space, it's always nice to connect with likeminded people. I'll update tomorrow when I get the XJS home, the rubber is intact on it. The MK1 will have to wait until I can enlist help on Tuesday.

If you began learning body work at 8 or 9, you should be Really good at it by now. You owe your father a debt to have taught you a trade to support yourself and family. So many don't have that advantage.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
