New Jag fan
Hello all,
Bought my 1998 XJ8 Vanden Plas from a guy who was going to give it to a salvage yard. He was tired of throwing money at it. A right timing chain and tensioner, 4 tires, resolder the brake control module & detail job later... I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO SELL IT!
The more I drive it, the more I like it. Last night (Thanksgiving), I locked the only key and remote I have in the trunk. A google search brought me to you folks. I hope to leave work tonight and get my keys out of the trunk with the help of one of the threads from this forum.
I look forward to developing my affinity for Jaguar and my new project car with you all.
Stay warm,
Joe

Thanks for the warm welcome, Rick, Jim, Norri and Mohrd. I did indeed rescue the keys. It's scary how easy it was. I have to think about how to prevent unwanted intrusion by this method and allowing myself a failsafe that only I know about.
The car smells like Thanksgiving dinner now. I locked leftovers in the trunk along with my key. The food still smelled great, but, into the trash can it went.
I now have three keys and will attemp programming with my diagnostic interface. I bought new keys that the dealer cut by vin code. The trunk would not open with the new keys. I thought they were cut wrong. It turned out to be my fault due to the attempted lock picking (futile). With the help of another thread, I got the trunk and door locks working well with WD-40 and a little persuasion. (After I already had it opened.)
Gotta go to work now.
Thanks again,
Joe
