Default New Jag, first time owner!

Hey Folks,

Just bought a very nice 1999 XJ8 for a SWEET deal! One owner, no accidents, only 27k miles. My plan is to fix the basics, and flip it for profit!

I'm pretty handy, so I'll do most of the work myself. Looking forward to learning from and contributing to the forum!

- Mike

Welcome to the forums Mike,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hello, Mike,
Congratulations on a deal well made.
But before you "flip" this car, you might want to Drive it for a while. You just Might decide to keep it.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome. You've come to the right place. "The Basics" on a 99 XJ8 also must include updating the timing chain tensioners from the original flawed plastic parts to the final iteration design all metal parts which Jaguar finally started using in about late August 2002. At 27K miles, they're probably only starting to crack but otherwise at 20 years old you're driving a ticking time bomb. When you are ready to flip it, educated buyers will want to know that its been done or want a $2,500 discount so they can have it done which is perfect for you since you can DIY for only about $500-$600 in parts and supplies. There's plenty written about it, details and "how to" guides here on this forum. Good luck.
