New Jag owner
Hi
Brand new Jag owner here. Just bought my first Jag, a 2003 XK8 with 116000 miles on it. I like this car alot! I plan on doing all or most of the maintenance myself. Any help and suggestions are welcome. Been working on cars most of my life so am not to concerned with the actual operations, just finding out the idiosyncracies of the beast.
So far, what a great car to drive!!!!

Hi Lowride
Can you be more specific on your car, because 2003 was a changeover year from steel to aluminium bodies, accompanied by a much better V8 engine (4.2 litre). However, I don't think the ally cars got to the US until 2004.
If it is the earlier model, then the upper camchain tensioners, (one on each cylinder bank), need inspection and probably replacement with the later metal bodied ones, unless you have proof this has already been done.
Also if it is the earlier model, this is the wrong forum as this is for the aluminium XJs, so you might get better responses from the one for the 1998-2003 cars, the first saloons to have the V8, prior to this it was all straight 6s and V12s.

Congratulations on your 03 Jag
Sounds like a jewel of a car. I just purchased an 03 Stype with 95K miles. I had looked quite awhile to find one with less than 100K for my price range with the options that I desired. I see yours has a bit over 100K. Hopefully these cars are not worn out after the 100K mark! I'm thinking there is a lot of car left after the turnover! I did get an extended warranty from the dealership with my deal as he didn't accept my lowest offer on the car, but instead gave me a warranty with the car. I also feel that if the car has been cared for in all appearances, then the owner usually cares for it mechanically as well. I hope I am right. I so enjoy this forum and all the other people that are car crazy like me. Thanks for your post.
