Default New to Jaguar and here!

Just purchased my first Jaguar - a 1997 XJ6 with the 4.0 litre inline 6. Has 114,800 miles on it and seems to have had a hard life...

I am originally from London but have spent the last 19 years in Memphis, TN. I guess it is about time I owned a British car!

I bought the car as a daily driver / project. I hope to be able to bring the interior and epaint back to life. Any tips on getting smoked-on, dirty tan leather clean appreciated!!

Most things seem to be working apart from the clock that doesn't display correct, the headrests don't want to move up and down (motors whir but sound bad) and the headliner will need replacing.

Engine and transmission sound good; suspension and brakes need some looking at soon.

Looking forward to using this great resource!

Trevor

Welcome to this friendly Forum, Trevor.
Here's your car section
XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
have a good look around there, particularly secondary timing chain tensioners which, if not already replaced, are waiting to blow up your engine.
There's also a Regional section

Welcome to the forum Trevor,

Sounds like minor issues so you've got a solid car to start with rather than a major resto.

Follow this link XJ X300 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X300 section for help, advice and information.

Enjoy the project and the forum.

Mine is the inline 6 cylinder 4.0L. Does this issue apply or is it only the V8?
From a quick search it looks like a V8 issue? Thanks!

Trevor,

Timing chain / tensioner is a V8 issue.
