Default New to the sometimes confusing painful, and rewarding world of Jag ownership!

Hi,

The subject title is a little misleading as the car (1998 XJ 3.2 Sport) has been in the family for 3 years now. Prior to that, it was owned by (sorry, UK Cricket reference here!!) former Worcestershire opening batsman and Cricket bat manufacturer, Duncan Fearnley....not a huge and boast-worthy claim to fame but makes it a little more interesting than your normal battle-scared XJ!! It has had relatively little use in the last 3 years (1000 miles per year average) and is currently showing a seemingly accurate 95k miles on the clock. I have started using it a bit more recently as I was tired of seeing it languishing on the driveway but years of minimal, 'only what is necessary' maintenance have slightly took their toll!! I will post some of the more head scratching problems in the coming days and would welcome your thoughts...once I have trawled through previous post to see if anything sounds vaguely familiar!

Cheers,

Gavin.

Welcome to this friendly Forum and therapy session, Gavin.
For some obscure reason I was involved with a plantation of Duncan's cricket bat willow trees in the dim distant past.

Thanks guys....it looks like Duncan tried to take out one of your willow trees with the rear near side quarter of his Jag....still, adds character and a two-tone patina I reckon!!!!

Look forward to contributing...

..............and I was going to add that I hoped he'd kept his bat in the boot. Seems not!

No, but there are some outward dents in both rear quarters suggesting something or someone was trying to get out!! Also, quite randomly, he did leave a pair of black & white leather driving gloves, a pair of very 80's graduated tint prescription sun glasses (Denis Taylor-esque in their, quite frankly, ridiculous proportions!!) a chince cushion and a selection of tapes (despite there bing a 6 disc CD multi changer!!) detailing a very varied and questionable taste in music....Willie Nelson, Hot Chocolate, Gloria Estefan and Whitney Houston to name a few!!!! On a more interesting note, his WCCC parking pass is still with the car and underneath the current ‘R’ reg number plate is his original private registration….Always nice to find a bit of history with old(ish) cars...no matter how trivial!

Recommend changing the registration number a.s.a.p. With that dubious collection of 'memorabilia', it's almost certain to be on the Police watch list!
