To start with, keep in mind that french is my first language. I have always found the serie 2 and 3 XJ sooooo sexy and beautiful and I told myself that I would own one.
Before getting there, I owned, as daily driver (in the summer), a 87 mercedes 420 SEL and a 1991 560 SEC. I also bought a 300 SEL 6.3 with the intent to restore it, but that is a story for another forum. Finaly, I also restored a 1952 ****** jeep and a 1979 super beatle convertible.
At the beginnning of the pandemia, I fell in love with a 1979 XJ12L with 90000 kms. The car had been stored for a long period. I had no idea what I was getting into, but what can I say, I was in love!!
I have to admit that this restoration became a perfect project for the first Covid 19 confinement of spring 2020. Gas tank, injectors, fuel hoses, fuel valves, connectors, front and rear suspension, water pump, power steering pump, seats leather, tires, rims…name it. I am almost ready to drive it now, but winter is at the door. I only have the gas tank issue to fix with brand new ones.
About at the same time I bought the car, I located a 78 XJ6 euro (RHD) in Halifax (east coast) that I bought mainly for the bumpers and the rims. With my youngest son and friends, we totally dismantled the car for the parts I wanted.
Since I own the only S2 XJ12 in Northern Quebec, specialysed mechanics here are inexistant. This site is therefore an incredible source of information.
Hello, Christian,
First off, there is Nothing wrong with your command of English!
Congratulations on your successful repairs of your First Jaguar XJ12!
Now it seems you'll have another winter to complete the restoration.
Welcome to the Forum! Congratulations on the work you did on your XJ12. I expect it might be difficult to obtain parts and find a knowledgeable mechanic where you live. How far north in Quebec are you? This Forum is an excellent resource, especially if you do your own work. I live near Atlanta GA USA but grew up in Montreal. We currently own a 2005 XJ8 and a 2003 XK8. If can be any help to you, let me know.
