Welcome to the forum dwinters14, for tech questions please post into your model specific section. However, the Sport mode, raises the auto shift points, so that the engine reaches higher revs, hence more power before shifting and it will also drop down two gears when you floor the pedal for overtaking.

Of course if you are driving gently or in traffic it won't make any noticable difference exept on fuel use.

Welcome, X Type Forums will be a good source for your questions .I have noticed that using Sport Mode in the city rather increases fuel usage than normal mode but in highway conditions I would not say same

Welcome to the Forums! X-Types are beautiful aren't they?

Excellent advice from Translator and Cadillac! Yes, sports mode (S) for "spirited" driving changes the stall speed with all duly noted side affects.
