New member - 1976 XJS
Hello all - long time lurker, but joined so I can get some help!
Currently got a 1976 XJS which I am trying to sort into a useable car. Had it for a couple of years but really need to get it running properly now.
Based in the West Midlands area.

Refreshing page to see if my (apparently required) intro posted as a new member I happened to come across your post.
The title alone, a 1976 XJ-S, has my admiration and respect.
I have owned the later V12s (and many other classic Jaguars) throughout my life,
While I have been very tempted to stop and give up due to my present circumstances on my Series 1 XJ6, which was/is to be my swan song..
..considering simply getting a later, more practical model..
The S1 XJ-S was the only other one that really tempted me as a swan song car. (No, this is not what I meant by a later, more practical model)
Also such a rare car, especially to find in good running/driving condition.
However mine has my heart so that is that, and I passed up some really nice, ideal opportunities for a S1 XJ-S from forum members.
The ideal, dream opportunity for these cars which I know I will never come across again.
Anyway, you have my admiration and respect.
Stay organized, one section or aspect at a time, complete it , only then move forward to another aspect or section.
This will not only keep you from becoming overwhelmed, but also keep you motivated, which is very important as you know.
Those V12s are very reliable when sorted...as are the XKs.
One must be thorough, a professional, a perfectionist. With the V12, have an engineer's sort of mind.
None of my cars have ever let me down.
I highly recommend downloading Kirbert Palm's free XJ-S bible on JagLovers site.
A must. It will remove the wonder and any fear about these motors making all very digestible.
They are really not complicated cars, per se..
Upon learning and appreciating all that is involved and must be understood on these, electrical theory, wiring, electronics, systems, etc
It will make all others child's play.
Vis a vis, you will learn a lot owning and especially restoring one..
You will be at the top of the heap, fwiw.
All the best and be careful.
PS: Here is a nice site from a very kind gent who sold his not long ago, and I perhaps foolishly let pass me by.
There is another fellow too of the same character who sold his not long ago I also frustratingly let pass. He had created a similar site.
Cannot recall his name or site anymore. When I do I will PM you. fwiw

Thanks for your reply. I have always wanted an XJS S1 and took the plunge when offered one!
I have put a lot of work into the engine and front suspension and am now trying to sort the interior and instruments so I can at least use it this summer.
As you rightly state - one job at a time or you'll never see the end!
