I bought a dilapidated 1985 XJ6 (Series 2) 3.4 for £200 in 2002 as a donor for a kit car.
The kit car idea morphed into a body swap on another existing car ('Reliant Scimitar' to a 'Sammio G46' - ongoing project) so the XJ6 has been sitting in the barn ever since. I was planning to use a few minor parts from the Jag before scrapping but the kit car supply market is so sophisticated that I can buy all the parts I need 'off the shelf', so I was going to scrap the old girl as I now need the space for other projects..
Trouble is I can't let go. She hasn't got much going for her; rust in all the usual places, headlining drop, timing chain rattle, rear engine oil seal, cracked cylinder head and a few accidental scrapes, scratches and minor dents... no idea if the block is cracked.
I could spend thousands putting her back on the road and she wouldn't be worth it financially, but I vividly remember how pleasant it was driving her home when I bought her.
With a sinking feeling I think I'm going to be busy next year on a project I hadn't bargained for...
I have seven other car /bike related projects so don't hold your breath...

Hello,
We so often have that emotion in here, "I simply can't let go." Jaguars do that to us, don't they; they get under our skin.
But when we Finally get one of these Glorious cars properly back on the road, all the anguish that went before is soon forgotten. (I can tell you how I know that)
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Very many thanks for all the welcoming comments - this forum looks like a nice place to be and I will post details of the project in the appropriate section as and when (if?).
Naturally I have started compiling research from the projects pages, technical page links and forum comments on here and I am listing parts suppliers and services in the UK before I touching a single nut and bolt.
I have already noticed that most companies that specialise in Jaguar reconditioning services (with very glossy websites) pitch themselves towards the XK and E-type end of the market with the inevitable high level of fees.
It looks like I need to find the old bloke in a workshop underneath the railway arches that these people use for the more esoteric stuff; block crack detection, stitch welding, brake disc skimming etc...
