Hello Jaguar Forums! I used to be a Forum member years ago. (Not sure what happened.) I live in Denver and have a beautiful 2002 XK-8 Convertible with a British Racing Green exterior/cream interior. I bought it in 2006 with about 30,000 miles. Now it has about 85,000 miles. It rides like paradise and never fails to make me smile. I've taken it on two long rides- one bringing her home from Florida and a second tour through Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. I want to take it on more long cross-continent rides, but recently been concerned about the conversations I've seen about the upper (secondary) timing chain tensioners and guides.
Welcome back to the forums DenverJag,
Your 2002 is beyond the high risk of the early generation plastic tensioners (there's been four generations of them) but still worth a check to avoid trouble. After sixteen years, the XK8 must be a permanent fixture with you so worth covering the three major weaknesses of tensioners, plastic cooling system components and a precautionary transmission fluid and filter change to prepare for further long distance drives.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Central Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-central-36/ to find other members in your region.
Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.
Enjoy the forums.
Graham
