Hi All.. long time Porsche owner looking to buy a Jaguar F type. Found a few I like. Any known issues I should be aware of or ask about before purchasing one?
I have been a long time member on Pelican Parts ( almost exactly like this forum, except for Porsche’s)
here is a picture of my current car and 20+ year long project, or obsession as my wife would call it.
Thank you in advance for any advice you might be able to give this Jaguar challenged old man
Btw. Sorry. Am looking at a 2014 F type base, 57,000 mile 2 owner car. Looks over all clean and in good condition. 3 states away so looking at taking a day trip and fly over and back. Would like to be some what educated on what to look for and ask when I get there.
I work at a local new car dealer in Mpls (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram dealer) as a fixed ops manager, service and parts.
so I would have connections to do some minor issues if they were to arise, but would prefer not to have a huge money pit on my hands too.
Thanks again.
Brian

Many of our US members set great store by low mileage but I've always preferred light and regular use. All recent and current Jaguar models give less trouble like this. Service History is critical with any used Jaguar and at 57K miles, this one should have been serviced on a TIME basis - every 12 Months. Question any gaps in this. Trim prices are outrageous so scrutinise any damage and a missing Smartkey can be expensive to replace.
Well finally found and bought the one I have been looking for. Flew to Detroit and made the deal on it. The information I learned on this forum was unbelievably valuable in my purchase. The known issues of the leaking coolant tube and the super charger nose cone bearing and gear were noticeable on it. The dealer was honest and fair about them and agreed to fix both before I purchased the vehicle. Had it shipped back home and within a day or two noticed a belt noise. Not sure why I didn’t think to have them put new belts on it, but was a good way to start a relationship with the local Jag dealer. Also noticed a clunking noise when entering my driveway. With a little more research found a TSB from Jaguar about the upper rear strut mount isolators and had them do them also.
Little over $700 later I cannot tell you how much I love this car already. Now if I could just get it to stop snowing 12” every day here I could actually drive it..
Thanks to all the posts here and the invaluable information provided by all those that post here to help us newbie Jag owners,
for now tucked safely away from all the white frozen precipitation we call snow here, waiting for some more suitable convertible weather
So happy to say I was able to at last get the car I have dreaming of for months now. Flew to Detroit and made a deal on the one I was looking at. Armed with all the great information I learned on this forum I felt well educated to know what to look for on the vehicle. Two items I was informed enough to look for and did find on it was the coolant tube leak and the super charger cone bearing and gear. After pointing them out to the dealer they were honest and fair and agreed to fix them before I finalized the deal. Within a week they had them fixed and was on a transport to its new home here in Minnesota. Shortly after getting it here it developed a belt noise. Not sure why I wasn’t smart enough to ask them to put new belts on it. I figured well it’s a good way to start a relationship with the local Jag dealer. I also noticed a clunk in the truck area and with a little research found a Jaguar TSB on it that pertained to the rear upper strut isolators. Had them replace those also. A little over $700 and now it’s perfect. I can not tell you how much I love this car already. Now if I could just get it to stop snowing a foot of snow every other day here I could actually get out and enjoy it.
for now it is tucked safely away until we get some better convertible weather.
Thank you all for the advice and knowledge shared here to help us newbie Jaguar owners.
