I live in Nome, Alaska where I am a Commerical Fisherman for Red King Crab and Longline for Halibut after we Quota Out on Crab. The Longlining goes on until November 1st or the Ocean freezes up.
I have a '83 XJ-S HE that I keep in Seattle, that I will be moving it to Nevada after the Neil Young Concert on November 17 of this year.
I have been looking for people who used to use jag-lovers.org, they had a photo album section devoted to XJ-S's and the work the owners did to them. One guy in partictular was named tedykan this guy was a wizard when it came to the XJ-S Jaguars or any Jaguar for that matter, he "loved" the V-12 Engines.
The Jag-lovers site had over 92K (thousand) members, so someone should know how to find some of the members or what happened to the site.
I do plan on getting another XJ-S, and to go with it a manual transmission, 17 wheels (just like the ones Xk's unlimited was offering) and a Cat-back Exhaust all from The Driven Man. John's Broken Kitty has V-12 blocks and EMC's for sale because he builds "Lumps" and has no need for the Jag Engines.
For the uninformed "Lumps" are when you replace the Jag Engines with Chevy Small Blocks.
Thats All For Now

Hello, I live in Mt Maunganui, New Zealand and the first Jag I've ever owned is my 2006 XK! Now I realise what I've been missing all these years. Also have a Ford Falcon ute for work stuff and another "hobby" car which is a 1988 BMW 318 that I've converted to electric power. Wife has an Audi A3 convertible, but the Jag is far and away the pick of the bunch. Not too many of them around here though.
Hey Bill,
Stay warm and dry until you can return to Seattle (not many can use that line!). The XJS is a gorgeous automobile, and I can imagine it's even more rewarding to drive in Las Vegas - you're going to drive it there??
Welcome to the forums here, hang around, let us know your thoughts. Keep your dreams in sight.

Steve,
I bomb around the "Lower 48" or "Outside" as we oldtimer Alaskans call it every chance we get. I say "we" meaning my Navigator (wife) and I. When we first got the XJ-S, we did a short trip, 10 States 10,000 miles, in 10 days. I refer to that trip as "Road America, The Ethinic Tour". The Road part is all the driving, the "Ethinic part is everytime we came accross a Casino (Indian Gaming) we stopped. The wife was ready for a beer and a little rest and to take some of their money with her.
That's how it works with us, I drive she gambles. I gamble every year for 5 months at a time Crabbing and longlining in the Bering Sea, starting Friday the 15th of this month.
I bought the Jag from my father who bought it new in '83 for $38K, I picked it up for $3,500, I've done a lot to it so far, and we are planning to get a little place outside of Vegas so I can get another one and a XJ12 and trick them to tears. Rose says we will have a $100,000 shop with a tent pitched beside it
Sounds fine to me.
For some reason I get http 404 page can't be found everytime I try for Jag-lovers. I don't mean to upset anyone on this forum, hang with me and you'll see I'm O.K. just a little rough around the edges sometimes. Let me know if I get out of line and I'll toe to it.

Norri,
I tried clicking on the Jag-lovers, and still can't get through, might have something to do with the messed up system we have here in Rural or Bush Alaska. I'll keep trying.
Thanks,
Bill

Harlequin2,
Some years ago there was a Kiwi who used to come up here and "Beach Mine", back when Gold was at $350 or so an ounce. He came for several years in a row, but it's been some time since I've seen or heard from him. After that Discovery Channel program about mining here we are in for a hoard of Miners (100 or more expected) and a bunch of loosers, a lot who have been here for months allready. Some of the idiots showed up while we were still below zero and the Ocean was froze up harder than the hubs of hell. There is still Ice out there, but not enough to keep us in Port or to trap us while we are out.
I'm kinda fond of my XJ-S myself it's my first, but not my last. As far as other rides go, mostly 3/4 ton Dodge and Ford Pick-Ups. Not much for roads here and even less when the snow closes them for the Winter. After a good blow I can have a drift 8' high and over 100' long so 4x4 trucks with lockers in the rear diff and a limited slip in the front one get me out of the driveway and onto the road most of the time. Other times it takes a Cat 966 wheel loader a couple of hours to dig us out. Life's a bitch in the Sub-Arctic (and then you marry one
not really, got a good one this time)
They have a Training Program that sends Inuit people to New Zealand to learn how to be Dental Assistants. From what I understand they spend 3 years down there and then come back and help their People out by working in the Clinics. The A.D.A. wasn't thrilled about the program, but they weren't willing to help out. (money, money) so there is a connection inbetween Rural Alaska and New Zealand. Howz that for little known facts.
Seen that some US idiots got stuck in a Winter storm the other day, they weren't from around here. We understand what Winter is, even close to the South Pole.
Enough for now

Paul,
I understand about the "Navigating",Let's see...The "Loran" stations have all been shut down, my G.P.S. doesn't seem to help, must be because it's the Marine version. My Nobeltec Nautical Software isn't much help either not even "The World Folio 11" disk, so I'll break out my Sextant too foggy today for that, so I'll go and see if I can still " Dead Rectum"
(Dead Reckoning) my way around.
One thing however don't forget to say just what you are driving in the way of Jaguars, they seem to be a little touchy 'bout that one here.
Anywho thanks for the note,
Bill

Norri,
After a bunch of searching around yesterday I found a small part of Jag-lovers on Facebook of all things, not a whole lot of help. I did however find Gunnar Helliesen and sent him an E-mail, which he answered today telling me they are indeed still up and running. Also found out he's running around the States in a Mustang judging by the photos he posted.
I still get the same old 404 message when I attempt to visit the site. It's got to be the server that we have up here. If I can find Crab and Halibut on the bottom of the Ocean I should be able to find them sooner or later.
Speaking of the Ocean we ain't going out Friday, there's still too much Ice out there. they ADF&G shut down the Herring Roe Fishery due to the Ice conditions. that means the Bait Fishery was stopped also, nothing catches Starfish like old Bait (last year's is guaranteed to do just that) but they still will want top dollar

Hi Bill,
Some years ago I visited Alaska, but didn't look for any gold! Enjoyed the salmon though.
Also used to work for Aristocrat making gaming machines, so pleased to hear you are still subsidising my work (-
A van full of American tourists managed to roll over around here a while ago and killed a couple of them. They had no seat belts and about 8 people in a thing designed to carry 6. Some people just never learn.

Welcome to the forum.
Good to see you.
You sound to be quite a character, then again in your line of work you would need to be.
BTW, we are not touchy, it's just that sometimes we don't have a clue as to what car we are looking at.
Kind'a like your fish finder saying "yup, there's something moving down there, best cast the lines".
Snag is, it could be a Sub or Halibut.
Stay safe.
