Hi all,
Just bought a 4.0 1996 sport brooklands green.
In surprisingly good low rust 128k miles. Mint interior! Think I am lucky

Fitted. 4 new tyres as awhile standing had flat spotted them.

Not my 1st jag, had V12 etype, factory yellow xk8, 4.2 stype, V12 xj series 2.
This one is for keeps is the plan and make it as tidy as possible.

Looking forward to Jec meeting when I join

Steve

Welcome to the forum Steve,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can see you have already found your way to the X300 tech section so there's no need for a link.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Hi, a little bit more about my car.
It was one owner from new until Feb 2014. The 2nd owner did 500 miles, injured his back. couldnt get out of the Jag, as a result so sold it to me. I have done 900 miles this week trouble free after 4 new Dunlops fitted.

The AMAZING thing is it has a full Jaguar service history upto 127k (now 129k) miles. The 1st owner was a Major Rook of Beverston Castle (now deceased) and there is a record of every penny spent on the car from new!. It cost £29220 new 1/6/96.

I will work out the average fuel consumption and total costs (about 20k in bills) and see how it compares to my 27 mpg avg.
It will be maintained by me from now on, so only receipts will be available to future owners ;-)

I bought 4 Dunlops fast response at £117 each (470 the lot) but ATS dealer charged £417 for 2 new tyres on Jan 2008!!! Pays to shop around!

I am busy sorting out little niggles like broken clips on engine bay covers, rear silencer box blowing and the missing toolkit was a disappointment. Nothing major at this point. I am surprised by the little rust given its age, usual spots like lower front wings, door bottoms, arches, jacking points etc are all immacualte for age.

More later on costs in lifetime
Steve

For the other anoraks on the forum ;-)
The 1st year May 96 to Apr 97 the details are not recorded, as I assume it was the owners private vehicle, but on Mya 97 it moved to a business cars so has full 'accounts' history from then:-

Total cost between May 97 and Sep 2013 = £22700
Servicing and MOT = £7846
Listed tyres = £982
Other maintenance costs = £1990
Road tax = £3020

The remainder is fuel (circa £8k for 117k miles) but fuel costs were not itemised in gallons/litres.

Most expensive single repairs outside service were a new radiator £565
Disk and pads - £497.

Hope Ihavent bored you too much.

It usually takes a lot of effort to build up that level of detail on a vehicle. You're lucky to get the full history accompanying your '96.
