Talking New member - Daimler S1

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and just a little about me and my car.

I have a Daimler 1973 series 1 double six vanden plas. In good condition and plan to restore when I get the chance. It's registered and drives well. Live in Canberra, Australia. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum 66VDP,

That's a favourite in my 'back catalogue' of Jaguars and Daimlers owned. The interior still ranks as one of the best on any vehicle ever produced. Looking forward to seeing pics of yours.

Follow this link XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You may also like to visit the Australia / New Zealand Region section by following this link Australia / New Zealand - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your part of the World.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

Thanks Graham much appreciated.

I've been trying to add a few pics but the site won't let me. It said I don't have privileges to access the page. Any ideas?

Cheers,

Dan.

Welcome to the forum.

Hang in there for a couple of days, and the software will do its thing. (there is an antispam restriction on new members).

Good to have you with us.

Thanks Richard. I'm enjoying the forum and can't wait to see more. I don't have a background in jaguars / daimlers and wasn't sure where to turn for advice so it's great to be on board. Cheers, Dan.

Dan,

As Richard says, there's a few restrictions on new members. You need 3 Days membership AND a minimum of 10 Posts before you can set up a forum garage or use the forum PM (Private Message) system.

You can add pics to a post straightaway. Check this thread:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...pictures-2418/

This explains the two methods of posting pics. Either linking to OnLine storage such as Photobucket or uploading directly from your PC.

Cool

Nice series I
do you have underworld connections? it looks dangerous..

on a serious note, what are those tyres? they look "small" (low profile - ? 70s) for an XJ12 - they originally had full-profile tyres such as Dunlop Aquajets - in fact, a dim memory is telling me the Aquajet was specifically developed for the series I XJ of 1968..

Hi Al,

Yeah they are lower profile than standard. In fact 215/65/15. The standard wheel / tyre combo looks good on the series 1, but I'm a fan of the gold wheels so it will be a hard decision if I ever go back to the original rim.

Dan,

Looks great. The Australian climate is certainly very kind to early Jaguars.

Yes Graham it is. It's the original paint so doing ok. From what I hear there aren't many of this model left in the UK due to the weather.

Dan,

Original paint - that's even more impressive.

There are very few left in the UK now. Poor build quality led to the tops of the front wings rusting through together with similar issues on the rear quarter panels and fuel tanks.

Our fuel costs also discourage running early V12's and values dropped like a stone. Single figure mpg was a killer even when I was young and single.

I love the series 1 XJ shape - I think its the purest looking of all the XJ saloons
I've only driven one V12, an XJ-SC, but what a beautiful smooth motor - Stories of 8-9mpg put me off though!
Petrol in NZ is about $10 per Imperial gallon - about 5 pounds a gallon.

Here is a good looking one for sale in NZ - Jaguar Series One SWB V12 1973 | Trade Me

My uncle runs Conversion Components which makes the 5-speed manual gearbox conversion this car has
