Hi.

I've been a long time Jag fan but did not want to spend the bucks for my dream E-Type (came close, real close a few times). My wife and I have toyed with the idea of an older sedan, but realize that is not our style. We love small European sports cars. The more primitive, the better (see signature line, that is our current collection). However, sometimes you just need to go somewhere. And for a long trip up the East Coast or maybe across the country, a Grand Touring car would just be better. In addition, my wife is tired of using our pickup truck (which is needed for auto parts and towing broken down old cars home) as her daily runabout.

So, we have decided that a Jaguar XK8 Convertible (2003-2006, love that style) with low miles in a color my wife loves would be perfect. Cost of entry is reasonable, reliability is relatively good (ok, its not a Honda), and it would be far more comfortable on a long trip than a 51 year old Lotus (or even a 12 year old Lotus). I'll be doing some searching here in the proper sub-forum and asking questions. We have already picked 2 for contention (one close, one far....but in the perfect color).

Our skill level on modern cars is relatively low. Change oil, brakes, and routine maintenance only. We do have a lift and enough tools for small-medium jobs on our current collection. I'm the luckiest man in the world because my wife loves playing with cars as much as I do. Driving, fixing, and just appreciating the hobby.

Since everyone always asks for pictures on a forum and we don't have a Jag yet, here are some pictures of our current collection and my wife changing the master cylinder on the Alfa before we got a lift to make these jobs easier (yes, the master cylinder is under the brake pedal).

Welcome.

Tidy collection there, and those shoes, oh boy, classic mechanic shoes, well done.

Enjoy the Jag, and if the right colour is what you both really want, go for it, at least its not down here, that would be "far".

You got that right! So many times I'll be trying to fix something after doing my own "research" and getting frustrated and my wife will be quietly reading the official service manual. She will finally just speak up and tell me how to do it right. Yes, she is always right. And I love it that way!

Welcome aboard shipmate! I was looking at getting a 2008 XJL in Douglasville. Had 3x,xxx miles with a silver body and jet interior. Beautiful car and a low price. I think it was about $18,000 or thereabouts. I ended up with a 2012 for a little more. It was a hard decision to make.
