So I'm a new member on here. I had to join this because I've had a jaguar 2002 xtype 3.0 automatic for a few months now, and need some help. I'm from the Boston area.

There's a few problems going on with my car.
First: gearbox fault code, and cruise control not available.

I brought the car to my mechanic who specializes on jags. He put in another used transmission control module thinking the current one may be bad. Didn't fix it

Brought it back. Put a new transmission range sensor in. Still didn't fix it.

Brought it to the dealer, who said it may need a new shifter assembly and cable.

Basically the car drives fine when it's only in third gear of j-gate. When I shift it to fourth gear, or drive, the fault lights pop up. The "D" and "4" on the j-gate do not light up either. The dealer said a new shifter assembly will cost me around 1,100. Will this even fix it???

I could definitely use some feedback on here!!!

Thanks!!!

I've removed your duplicate post in 'General Technical' - it can get very confusing to have multiple identical threads!!

Welcome to the forum Sgelb111,

Between your mechanic and the dealer, they've certainly thrown some major parts at this issue. I'd have been reaching for the code reader before going for the wrenches!

Hope the resident experts in the X-Type section can get you to a solution.

Enjoy the forum.

Graham

P1111 : OnBoard tests completed since last memory clear
P0430 : Cat system below threshold - bank 2
P0706 : transmission range sensor circuit - no signal/incorrect signal

The first one is OK confirming no recent code clearing. The second indicates an issue with an HO2 sensor. The third indicates a problem with the selector cable or range sensor/sensor circuit.

Hope the guys in the X-Type section have advice which saves you buying another major part.

Graham

Go to "User CP" in the black bar at the top of the page, that will take you to your control panel, click the "Edit Signature" link on the left of that page and enter your info.
Don't forget to save when you are done.
