Hi everyone.

This is my second Jaguar. It's a 2001 XJ8. Last week during a flash flood my husband drove through water without realizing it was deep. the engine hydro locked. The mechanic says that the best solution is to replace the engine because one of the cylinders is locked.
I'm at a loss of what to do, given the age of the vehicle. I love driving it and it has no other issues. Can someone recommend a trust worthy place where I could purchase a used engine with less than 100k miles?

Look forward to hearing any suggestions. Not trying to spend over $3k on a car this old, no matter how beautiful it looks on the outside.

Thanks
Liz

Welcome.

Bugga.

There will be an engine somewhere, and people in your market will know.

A re-ask in the XJ8(X308) Tech section will get a lot of answers.

Hello, Liz,
I'm sorry your husband has killed your car! Mine would be in fear of his life if he did that!
I hope you can get it fixed, and soon.

Welcome to the forum Liz,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Sorry to hear about your XJ8. That sounds like sensible advice from your mechanic. An engine strip down plus whatever parts are required and then a rebuild will be a lot more expensive than dropping in a good used replacement.

Follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

This is a long shot however are you sure it did not just die and then get water in a cylinder or two.
I would take out spark plugs and see if I could turn the engine over.

The mechanic removed the spark plugs and it did work. So there's hope for my "Sofia"

Thanks,
Liz

Sounds like there is no mechanical damage.

There will be water in the sump with the oil so before trying to start change the oil.

Good news. I'd assumed from your first post that the mechanic had already done this and found mechanical damage. I hope an oil and filter change brings it back to life.
