Hey guys/gals, just wanted hello and share my trials and tribulations of looking for and buying a Jag.

I'm an English guy who moved over to the USA for my job, been here for 2 years and love the classic XJ/XJR in Burgundy or deep gray.

I was reading up on XJ/XJR's and read all about tensioners from 1998 to 2002, found a 1998 burgundy XJR on autotrader, the inspection was all clear and agreed a price accounting for $1500 for tensioner replacement (a friend is more than handy with a wrench) but after taking out a rental car the guy went back on his deal (-$50).

Found a good deal on a 2003 deep grey Jaguar XJ on craigslist and the carfax was decent, the guy agreed an inspection but never heard anymore from him, what a time waster!

My backup was a 1 owner silver 2003 XJ from a dealer on autotrader, carfax showed a great service history and I knocked $500 of the KBB dealer price, after a couple of phonecalls the reputable dealer came down to my price and I'm chuffed to be a new used Jag owner, Awesome!!!

I Look forward to talking to fellow Jag enthusiasts...

Jon

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on the purchase of what, in my biased opinion, is the most beautiful sedan (or should I say saloon) ever produced!

Welcome to the forum Jon,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums. So you got one at the third attempt!

2003 was a model changeover year. I assume you've got a late steel bodied X308. If so, follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Mid West Region forum by following this link Mid West US - IL IN IA MI MN MO OH WI - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Default Welcome from another English Guy

Hi Jon,
Welcome from the Mid West region!
I too am an English guy that now lives in the USA, I came over in 1994 for 6 months with work but ended up bringing my family out here and have been here ever since.
Nice to see that you are now a proud XJ owner!
As GGG has already mentioned you can checkout the link for our region to find out what is happening locally and also find other Jaguar owners that may be close to you. This link is also in my signature.
I am glad to hear that you are chuffed with your purchase!
All the best to you.
