Hi Everyone!

Happy to be here. I recently was given a 2002 S-Type 3.0 to play with. (2002.0 if you will, not the half year updated version) She has 52000 miles on her and has been immaculately maintained. My biggest challenges thus far have been replacing interior plastics (totally understandable), going after rattles/creaks and the transmission.

At rare times the trans will apparently slip out of first gear while in Drive. (I have a video of this if anyone is interested) My first thought was low fluid, but learning of the sealed 5R55E already had me a bit frustrated. I also discovered a delay which occurs when first shifting out of park into Drive. I've heard this may be normal, but opinions seem to differ. (This to me again sounds like low fluid, but a sealed transmission is new territory for me) After some more digging, I discovered threads mentioning the stretched gearshift cable possibility. This is my next stop in terms of troubleshooting.

I've been using several of the existing posts here for help; thank you so much for those who have done a ton of work already to share such verbose information.

I've been working on this car for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed getting to know the odds and ends. (Both the good and the frustrating) I am a Ford truck man, so having a Jag built during the Ford years and coming across FoMoCo parts is pretty interesting. Admittedly, a sedan is not my style, but for a lifestyle/weekend car, it really has grown on me.

Thanks to the awesome documentation, I've already got JTIS up and running on a local VM. Tons of great information there. I've got a few questions I'll be adding to the appropriate threads.

Side note, I live in LA where junk yards are plentiful. Last Sunday, I visited a yard which had 4 S-Types, all of which had a ton of parts to pull. Prices are extremely reasonable. If any one is looking for a specific part you would like pulled, I'd be happy to discuss. It's just me, myself and I, so pulling an engine or trans would be a bit out of my league, but I'd be happy to look for things you may want while I'm exploring for my car.

Great to be here, looking forward to learning more!

-G

Welcome to the Forums.

Yours will be the 5R55N version. Both mine had issues @ 100K kms, and a Trans Fluid drop and refill sorted them both.

Good luck.
