Default New Member - Matt from Victoria BC

Hello! Thank you for including me in this community.

My name is Matt, and I live in Victoria BC Canada with my 1980 Jaguar XJ6 series III. The Jag was imported into Canada from California in 1989, and was purchased by my grandparents in 1994, in Victoria.

This car was a big part of my early childhood, a staple during the time that my love for old cars was being born.

When my Granddad passed in 2004, it was given to my father and then sold. Since it was sold, I’ve stayed in touch with the buyer and was always thrilled when I’d run across it driving around town, but never thought I’d be given the chance to own it myself.

Fast forward to 5 months ago, I see a Facebook message from the Jag’s current owner. He tells me he’s planning to give it away and would I like it. Hell yes?!?

After many years and many miles, and many hours spent on maintenance, it now needs either a transmission rebuild or replacement, and a few other small maintenance items.

I had it towed home, and then to a shop, and began the basic processes of revival. Up to this point, the car had been sitting for about a year and an half. All it needed was fresh gas and spark plugs to fire up and run perfectly! Upon initial drives together, I discovered the transmission issue, and some electrical quirks which I’m hoping to work through with your help here; some excellent advice has already been received from some members on a thread I started yesterday. Much appreciated!

If you’ve made it this far, thank you for reading. This is going to be a very special piece of my Granddad to have with me again. A Time Machine!

Currently sits at approximately 190,000 miles.

Welcome to the forums Matt,

Good to have you with us. Amazing both that it survived and then that you got it back.

I can see you've already found your way to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Canada Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/canada-73/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums and good luck with the revival.

Graham
