New member, new owner
Hi I'm Colin and I live in Peterborough, UK.
We've just become the owners of a lovely grey 2002.5 3.0SE S-Type.
A few months ago my wife and I picked up a very cheap Audi A6 which gave my good lady a taste for big wafty comfy saloon cars.
We'd always had hatchbacks and estates before. Saloons ain't all that convenient when you've got kids.
Well the kids are older now, only one left at home, so time to put comfort ahead of load capacity.
Well the Audi was very nice and all but unfortunately two weeks after we got it the poor old thing had a sudden disagreement with it's lubrication system in the outside lane of a dual carriageway at 80 when the oil light came on.
By the time I got to the hard shoulder the damage was done and some very expensive noises were coming from the engine. The car was worth about tuppence ha'penny so definitely not worth repairing. £145 from the scrap man and a trade in on the tax disc.
So.....what to get next. It's the wife's car so I had to let her choose. But of course it was my duty as a loyal husband to make sure she got the best thing possible. Right? Right.
I think you'd like a Jaaag dear. (Sorry, I have to say it like that. I've got a Jaaag. All Terry Thomas like)
Where was I. Oh yes, well, I presented her the facts. She liked the Audi before it blew up but didn't want another, she doesn't like Beemers and thinks Mercs are ugly (the ones in our budget anyway)
I do have to confess to being a little bit biased in my presentation of the facts. I did fairly heavily slant it towards the Jaguar but to be honest I don't think she needed much persuading.
Then starts the fun bit. Finding the right one. We were seriously considering a V8 but I was frightened off the 4.0 by the camchain tensioner stories and a 4.2 was just out of our budget unless I was prepared to accept sketchy service history. So we decided on a 3 litre.
Eventually we found what looked like the right car all the way up in Newcastle with a very nice man called Andrew. More than full service history with 13 stamps in the book at 92 thousand miles and it's obviously been a well loved car.
As I said, it's the wife's car and it couldn't be much more different to my daily driver which is a 23 year old Eunos roadster which has done over a quarter of a million kilometers. Driving the Jaaag makes a lovely contrast to the rawness of the old Mazda and we're both enjoying it very much.
