Default new member newly acquired xk8 and one question

Hello everyone:

Just wanted to say hi
Live in Newfoundland Canada
Just bought a 99 xk8 which is in good shape
Always wanted one and its now or never
I want to thank all for the info as I have been researching before buying
Although I must admit I have taken a chance as it was bought out of province but a good car buddy of mine checked her out for me
I see a water pump, thermostat housing in my future as they are the originals or NOS
And a decent code reader
I did clean the throttle body MAFS etc and little oil residue found
Has a slight hesitiation which is gone now
Has 120 thou kilometers or so
Motor strong and quiet
Will not do much driving as its soon time to put away for winter
I find the forum great and hopefully I will be able to add to it next spring summer

One questing
I downloaded JTIS and seem to not have much info
Lots of stuff not shown or blank
Am I getting the wrong version or is that all the info thats in it

Tks everyone for all the info

Howard

Welcome to the forum Howard. I have the JTIS on CD, and like your thoughts, it seems lacking in information. I will say though, that every time I use it, I seem to get further into it and gain more information. I'm an old fashioned Chiltons or Motor Manual type of guy, and would rather have a thick pub laying around to peruse. Maybe someone will chime in and educate us. If I could find a master print button, I'd load up a ream of paper and print it out.
Enjoy your ride!
Ralph

Howard, the search engine blows in the JTIS. I just use the 'browse' option at the bottom and find the system I need. Its more detailed once you expand into the various systems.

Welcome to the XK family! Tensioners, secondary ones....read about them on here and educate yourself, ok?

Default tks

Hi again:

Tks for the replys
Will check into the browse on the JTIS
Yeah have read about the secondary tensioners !!!!!
I will take the top off and at least see if they have been done
If the cam chains are slack
I guess plastic (1st 2nd gen ??? ) or metal (3rd gen ??)
Out of all the issues (nikasel, convertable top pressure, water pump etc ) they worry me the most

Howard

And don't forget about the transmission failures.
