Excited to finally have purchased my first Jag after all these years.
When I first got my license (1973) I had the good fortune of having a girl friend whose dad briefly owned a Jaguar. I couldn't tell you the year or model but one thing I do recall is that it was 12 cylinders and even as a novice I knew that was different.
Her dad lent the car for the two of us to go on a date and while I have long forgotten how the actual date went my memory of the impeccably smooth feel that car gave me still brings me a chill.
Needless to say that Jag didn't last very long either as one problem after another rendered it useless and within months the car was sold.
More recently I found myself looking to purchase a Porsche. Thought the wife could accept the justification if I looked for a 4-door Panamera. After months of searching and tons of test drives I never quite felt the vibe I had expected from that brand.
One day I spotted an XK on the road and thought it was a special looking car. My soon-to-be son-in-law, a car aficionado in his own right, told me to avoid the brand as he'd heard of all of the previous negative stories.
I ignored his warning and found a 2011 XK available close to home. I took it for a test drive and was immediately smitten. The interior was stunning as was the ride. Even better for me the sound system blew away even the high end I had heard in the Porsche models.
My son-in-law test drove it as well a week later and he too became an instant convert.
I've had the car for 6 weeks now and have taken a few road trips. What I have found is that I can't seem to go anywhere without exercising my right to go at least 90 mph.
In 40 years I have but one speeding ticket and I would like to keep it that way, but it's going to be a challenge.
I'm not a showy person by nature but it did feel good within the first few days having people I had never met come up and ask me about the car and how I like it.
Looking ahead I'm still uncertain how often I will want to drive the car this winter. Some friends have shown concern for the rear-wheel drive. To me having driven enough of them in the snow it is a non-factor. However, the low front end gives me concern especially in a few inches of snow.
I will keep monitoring the forum looking for guidance as winter approaches.
Happy to own a Jag and excited to be a part of this forum.

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Jaguar still haven't lost the bad reputation from the poor build quality of the 1970's era but it gives low used car values for those of us in the know!

Welcome to another XK owner! I love that it has just enough flash to draw people out to ask questions, but not so much that you can't realistically drive it daily. While I've never driven mine in snow, I can tell you the stock summer tires were rubbish on wet pavement. I have traded them out for All Seasons and have been very happy with the traction. Best of luck, and welcome to the forum!
