My name is Ted and I live in Southern California. I recently re-acquired a 1962 MK2 that I owned 34 years ago. The car was in very nice shape and running condition, but the person I sold the car to decided he was going to restore all of the interior wood, even though it didn't need to be restored. A few months after he bought the car, he removed all of the wood and lost interest in the project. He then parked the car outside and allowed it to deteriorate for the next 34 years. When I discovered what he had done, I decided to buy the car from him and attempt a driver quality restoration. The body is almost perfect but in need of new paint, the chrome trim needs to be redone, all of the exterior rubber is like stone or missing and the interior is a disaster. The leather has crumbled into a million pieces, plastic parts are ruined and the headliner has turned to dust. All this said, many of you are wondering why I would undertake such a project. The time and money are going to be more than I had anticipated, but this isn't my first "disaster" restoration. I have been restoring old British cars, mainly Triumph TR3s and Morgans for the past 40 years and understand what I am up against. I hope to benefit from being a member of the Forum and am more than willing to share any information I have acquired for my project. I try to do all of my own work, including mechanical, interior restoration, body work and painting. My future postings will NOT be so lengthy.

Welcome to the forum Ted,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I can well understand why you would undertake this restoration and hope your future posts about it will be considerably lengthier.

Hello, Ted,
Upon the advice of those with far more experience than I have in such matters, I decided a long time ago to Never sell a car I cared anything about to anyone I knew, anyone close by, or a friend or relative. Your story only makes that resolve stronger in my mind.

I hope you get it sorted out again soon, and have an enjoyable and satisfying time doing it.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
