Default New member in San Diego searching for an XJR

Hey all,

I've been browsing your forums for a few weeks now as I'm searching for an XJR (x308). My wife and I have our first kid on the way so my Miata needs to go (great excuse for a different car). I've always liked the look of the XJR and of course a supercharged V8 is appealing.

I do most of my own work so will definitely be diving in.

I'm going to look at one tomorrow, it's white, has 65k miles. Looks good but not much history on it. I'm having it looked at by a Indy shop, typical wear on driver seat and needs a headliner. Seller is asking $9800 which seems steep. I'm struggling with what I should pay. I may post up in the other section for advice.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to a new car to learn!

Hello, Brad,
Congratulations on your new family. It IS a great excuse for a new car! I can just see the 3 of you and all the baby gear struggling with a Miata!

You don't say the year of the car you're looking at. It Could be worth $9800, but it should be relatively new and in Excellent condition with a *Complete* history for that kind of money. Doubtless the XJR section will be better able to better advise you about that. Someone will be along shortly to direct you there.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Brad,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

It may seem strange but price is not the primary concern with a used Jaguar. Condition and a complete history are far more important as apparently 'small' faults can be costly to rectify.

It spunds like you.ve already found the modle forum but if not, follow this link XJ XJ8 / XJR ( X308 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-western-38/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Thanks for the welcome! We also have a Mazda 6 (I sell Mazda). So we probably could have gotten by but what fun is that?!

The car I am looking at is a 2000, the only history seems to be what is on carfax which is a couple of oil changes and emissions tests. I was thinking $7k max but that still maybe to much. I definitely don't want to be insulting but still.

This is the car:
Jaguar XJR, 2000, Low Miles

Brad,

Looks good and only three owners in sixteen years is a plus. Given the low miles, it should have been serviced on a time elapsed (not mileage) basis which means every twelve months. I'd expect a fat file of receipts to back this up.

Have a look at our X308 FAQ's for regular issues before you go to view and spend some time with the Driver's Handbook to make sure everything works.

I hope it checks out OK but if in doubt with a used Jaguar - walk away.

Graham

Welcome.

Follow Grahams advice, and be prepared to walk away, as those SC V8's can bite.
