Hello Guys
I am 28 and have been into Jaguars for a very long time, in fact ever since i can remember. Up until a few days ago i hadn't ever owned one myself.
I have been very fortunate to have been given a Jaguar X308 4.0 V8.
Unfortunately the body is pretty rusted up, but we are hoping to be able to do something fun with the mechanicals.
On another note i would like to say we are generally the sort of people (My Dad & I) who try to save cars. The influence of Jaguars has come from my Father.
When i was young i remember helping him work on a Series 1 E-Type 2+2 which he is restoring. This was his first Jaguar and believe it or not this car is still in pieces, however much of the mechanicals are in pristine condition waiting to be fitted to a repaired shell.
When i was 14/15 my Dad bought another fully working on the road Series 1 1/2 2+2 4.2 to drive about in and enjoy. As well as commute in for a few years. This car has spent long periods of time on and off the road other the years and i can say comfortably that i have more or less replaced every part on an E-Type at least once and this is the car where i have developed my skills. When i was 17 my Dad also started teaching me how to drive in the E-Type on an airfield. He said if you can 3 point turn and do emergency stops in this car you will find anything else easy. Not far wrong i would say
When i got engaged a few years ago the car had spent a long time off the road and the floors had rusted out and most of the mechanicals were beyond their best. Then i decided i would like to fix it up again for my Dad but also to use to drive to my wedding. In 9 months we completely stripped the shell of its mechanicals on the front. We left the rear alone as we didn't have alot of time. The interior was also stripped for the welding. 3 weeks before the wedding we got the car together and through an MOT. It might not be the best condition E-Type in the world but it drives(it broke down when my Dad drove home from wedding haha, but at least it got my Best Men & myself there
)
Last year we also bought a X300 3.2 from a friend as a bit of a project.
This car has been up & down, good fun to drive and we also spent a little time upgrading a few parts, however it is now sat on the drive with an intermittent starting problem. I am sure i will post a help thread and do some reading at some point to see if we can rectify it.
We also have a few other projects on the go which aren't Jaguar related but equally interesting e.g. Capri, Alfa, Mini & Rileys
I just like to say i glad to join the jaguar forum

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.
I got my X308 home last night and although it is a bit scabby it doesn't look too bad. You never know i may try to fix it, if its possible. Otherwise i am afraid i will be breaking my first Jaguar for bits for my Race Capri project. Please don't take offense by this as i do love Jaguars as i am sure you can tell. I will know for sure after the weekend is it will stay in one piece. Either way i am going to be happy

Welcome to the forums Will01!
Interesting history. It is apparent to me that my sons are not following me in their desire to save, restore, or take care of a Jaguar!
Nonetheless, I still endeavour to drive and maintain my X300s, but maintaining them is different from restoring them!
Hopefully you can make progress on both the XJs. I hear there are lots of differences, despite the cars looking very similar.
See you in X300. Cheers!
