Hello All,

Just wanted to introduce myself, i'm an Aussie living in Switzerland, a life-long Ford man, and I just picked up a very very clean 2005 X-Type, 52000KM / 32000Mi, still has the new car smell.

It's a long story how I ended up with this Jag (insurance on a Taurus SHO is unpayable in this country) anyhow i'd be happy to talk more about the car or anything in general, need to get my post count up...

I've already got a long shopping list of things to do on this car, especially in the audio/phone dept. I know why this one was called a Limited Edition, it's got nothing in it!

A few photos on the links below for you.

Cheers,
Cameron.

Welcome to the forum,

I know you want to talk about Jags, but I'm intrigued about Swiss taurus insurance.

Thanks Norri,

If you consider Swiss Franc vs. USD as 1:1 (close enough), it works out like this...

The 2010 Taurus SHO is only available in Switzerland from the one specialist importer, and the asking price is $67,500

Full comprehensive insurance on that car is ~$10,000 per year list price.

Even with my maximum discount / bonus of 65%, it's still $3,500 per year.

The X-Type costs half as much to insure.

I imagine it's considerably less in the US....

I am new here also. I that is a lot for a SHO. I know the import is a pain. I like the new SHO is a nice car but for all of the money you would pay I can see why the change. Welcome

thats so expensive.
I only pay $400 per year or full comprehensive coverage on my 05 STR.

is the insurance high because of imports? but Jaguar is also import... or because its new?

Thanks. You have to pay through the nose for anything special over here...

It's a combination of several factors;

- Insurance premiums are calculated based on the new price of the vehicle, so even if a car is 5 years old, you pay the same as if it were new. You can't insure for an agreed price. But of course if the car is a total loss, they only pay out the market value...nice...

- Premiums are also calculated on the engine capacity and horsepower. Anything over 3L / 200HP and you will PAY.

- Special imported cars generally will have higher premiums than locally delivered models. Cost more to repair after an accident, because nobody stocks the parts. The Jag was local delivered so different story.

- The SHO is considered a monster here; 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6, 370HP, AWD, it's in the same risk category as BMW M3/M5, Audi RS6, etc...

My 10-year old Mondeo ST200 (think Contour SVT) was $1600 per year...

Don't forget that these costs in USD look inflated now compared to before the GFC and the exchange rates shifted...the prices haven't changed in Swiss Francs...

Cambo351, welcome to the site & good to have you here with us
thanks for a nice intro with good info!

X type is a great ride and one you'll enjoy.....I used to be a Ford man for many many years myself and loving the Ford ST although I had the ST Tdci version...(155bhp upgraded to 195bhp with many many torques!! )

Please check out the relevant section for your ride and you will find good info there, especially in the FAQ quick link thread.

The off topic section can be fun and there's always the regional section so you can see who is around!

I've manually upgraded you to full forum access so you can better view all the sites features....

Thanks Jim,

I've already picked up a lot of useful information from the site, you all do a great job here.

Sure you'll be hearing more from me, getting my to-do list together at the moment, there's a lot do be done with this car yet.

Cheers!
