a new new member and xk6 1997 question
I have a question, due to an inheritance situation I have an opportunity to purchase a xj6 1997. Trying to understand what I should expect for future maintenance cost. I will need to have this shipped and need to make a fair offer to the estate. Sorry I do not know the mileage ( yes i understand that is key) this would be from an elderly family member that was very detailed oriented. Looking for thoughts or ideas on value and what to expect.
Any help would be appreciated,

In the "X300" section there's a "How To" thread which includes a buyers guide. It'll give some idea of what to expect.
Expense? Impossible to say with so little info. It's typical to buy a used Jag and spend a chunk of money getting everything up to snuff. At 16 years old any used car is likely to need at least a few repairs. And even the most cosmetically pampered examples often are overdue for servicing.
After the initial "new owner" repairs and servicing are behind you the normal "routine servicing/upkeep" is about the same as any other car....oil changes, brake pads, filters, spark plugs and the like. Nothing very exotic.
Actual *repairs* can run into big money if you're paying a shop to do all the work. OTOH, a halfway decent DIYer can keep one of these cars on the road for surprisingly little.
As for value, well, opinions vary. I'd say $1500 for a ratty car all they way to $6000+ for an exceptional example. I'd say most nice/decent examples are in the $3500-$4000 range. Do some Craigslist or Ebay browsing to get an idea.
Cheers

Welcome to the forum florida007,
The best advice I can give you is never to buy a Jaguar just because you have the opportunity but because you really want to own one. Owning and running a sixteen year old Jaguar is not low cost motoring. It's a high commitment in time and money. That's the downside. The upside is a well maintained X300 is a superb vehicle and a real pleasure to stand and look at, let alone drive!
If you do go ahead, there is all the help you need here on the forum to do any repairs and maintenance that may be required.
Enjoy the forum.
