Default New S-Type Owner here

First of all, thanks for keeping this fantastic resource available. I am new to S-Types, but not new to JagYOUar. My dad and I went in on an E-Type together way back when in my teen years. What a money pit. Yet here I am, 35 years later, having never shaken the bug.

2000 S-Type 4.0 Base
Platinum/Ivory
185,000 miles - yet pulls as strong as new rope

It has a few issues - appears to have both the trunk leak and the driver's sill leak, the moon roof has been siliconed shut and I'm pretty sure the passenger front window needs a regulator. But it really runs well, pulls like mad at least through 100 mph, shifts like butter, etc. (KOW)

A couple questions I haven't found answers to yet through a search:

>>Is the R version worth it? As they age, is the supercharger robust enough to last or am I asking for trouble if I get one?

>>Other than regular maintenance - I've read the maintenance thread/stickys for it - any suggestions on what to touch or leave alone after 185K? That many miles tells me 1. it was a good enough build to make it that far and 2. it is probably best to leave the sealed tranny and other similar components alone at this stage.

>>Are they supposed to eat any oil? It has no leaks anywhere and does not blow smoke. My '08 minivan eats about a quart every 800 miles, considered normal by the factory. My S eats about the same. Is that normal? Again, with 185K, there is bound to be wear, but pulling the plugs to check for oil and to do a compression test is a surprising PITA on these V-8s.

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Mark,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

It sounds like you've already found your way to the S-Type tech forum so there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues. I recommend you post your maintenance/oil consumption questions in a new thread in S-Type tech forum for the widest response from owners with the same model.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link USA Lower Atlantic - NC SC FL GA - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

Enjoy the forums.

Hello, Mark,
In my part of the world, moon/sun roofs begin to appear with silicon and duct tape around them about the first rain in the Fall. For that reason I never wanted one.

My Jaguar came to me with an aftermarket version but the seller said Plainly, "DON'T OPEN THE SUN ROOF!" No problem!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
