Wink New to world of the big cats!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Cathy. The gentleman I purchased the car from recommended I become a member as he has found a wealth of helpful information on this site, so here I am.

I just became the owner of a beautiful and powerful 1999 XJ8 VDP two weeks ago tomorrow. She has been in the shop since last Tuesday - should get her back today. Two top tensioners went out - had all 4 replaced with 3rd generation metal tensioners. I also had throttle checked, exhaust and coolant hoses replaced, and lead links replaced for dash electrical.

The thermostat was replaced within the year with a metal thermostat so I'm good with that. Fuel pump as well as fuel pump relay also replaced within 1 year.

The only thing now is the nikasil engine. I've been told by my certified JAG mechanic that as long as I drive her daily, cut out short trips without sufficient warmup, and use ultra premium unleaded Chevron fuel and oil changes every 3K miles, I should have a very solid car. Which is great, because I totally fell in love with her upon sight and after driving her, well, no comparison!!

Any additional thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and I look forward to chatting with all of you.

Cathy

Welcome to the forum Cathy,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums. I'd expect any vehicle owned by a member of this forum to be better maintained than average so you should have purchased the vehicle from a good source!

You've taken care of the regular problem areas on the vehicle with the list of current work. If a Nikasil engine is still running OK, there's no reason to expect it to fail now as the sulphur in the fule which caused all the issues has long gone.

Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link Southwest US - AZ TX NM OK - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Hi guys, thank you so much for all of the info - i greatly appreciate it! However, at this point, I'm gonna need to sell my beautiful girl, my dream car, Olivia,as i have named her. Owned her for 4 weeks now - driven her for 2. As of today, have replaced tensioners, top and bottom, all hoses, thermostat, all link leads and throttle body within past two weeks. Now in the shop for new fuel pump and fuel pump sensor. I cant afford anymore - feel like i have built this car from the ground up. She is absolutely stunning and the best ride i have ever experienced......but just cant do it anymore. Does anyone know how to post an ad on this forum - selling her for $7k. Also, can u tell me how to post pics on the site?

Cathy,

That's an extraordinary amount of work to have to do on an X308 in such a short space of time. It must have cost you a small fortune!

Follow this link to the PRIVATE For Sale / Trade or Buy Classifieds forum HOW TO guide:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/p...ellers-100730/

Section (e) of the guide has full details on creating a new advertisement including attaching photos.
