Hey all.

I have recently been toying with the idea of putting a Jaguar in my driveway. I am a Saab guy, have had several 9-5's, in fact, I have three in the driveway now, two should be getting picked up next week.

My daily 9-5 is a 2003 with 96K miles on it. Now there isn't anything wrong with it, I just sometimes get the urge for a new vehicle. Before the 9-5 I was driving a 2000 Mercedes S500, which was a great car. I inherited the car, was always in the family, my Uncle had bought it new back in 2000. When I sold it, there wasn't anything majorly wrong with it. Just some annoyances such as brittle plastic in the cabin, the CD player, tape player and CD changer all weren't functioning, but I had just replaced 3 of the four air struts in the few months leading up to the sale. Honestly, if I could of upgraded the stereo easily I probably would have kept it, but since it was all fiber optics, it would have been essentially a full rewire of the audio system. That combined with the crumbling plastic in the car, I made the decision to part with it. The other great thing about the car was the community was super supportive, and there was a DIY for almost any repair you could think of.

My Saab has been a great car, but I kind of want another big sedan and the price on the Jag's is pretty reasonable. Granted, they are now fairly well aged, so repairs may creep up, I don't have a problem turning a wrench. The X350's are the once that have caught my eye, and a little research (very little) seems they are a little more reliable than the older Jag's, a definite plus. I really like the look of the XJ8L, the extended wheel base and just being a land yacht, however, I have also seen a couple XJR's in the same price range as the 8L's. And who wouldn't like a super charged V8

Well, I think that is all I have for right now. If you read all of that, thanks, sorry for being long winded. I'll continue to lurk for a while, if I pull the trigger it will likely be near the end of summer when we pay off the wife's 2014 Enclave.

Have a nice day!

Matt

Welcome to the forum Matt,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums and thanks for a great Intro.

It's only fair to warn you that Jaguar plastic has something of a reputation for being brittle and high cost.

GGG, don't tell me that about the plastic

Is that the stuff in the cab, or under the hood, or both? My S500 I had issues with the wood warping and the covers not holding in place anymore.

Thanks for the welcome.

MG

Welcome.

Good luck.

Plastic is plastic, and the ageing process has no brand boundaries.
