New member intro. Have been cranking on cars for 50+ years, mainly on my terms (except for a short stint as a mechanic). Always loved Jags and assisted in the resurrection of a 1958 XK150 years ago. Recently had a semi-modern "barn find" and came into a 2000 S-Type 4.0 with 18,000 original miles on the clock. Absolutely mint condition - except for having been parked in a storage garage, unloved and untouched, for the past 5+ years. Had her towed to my place and still working on recovering from the improper storage issues, but hoping to get her out and about shortly. Battery, tires, hoses, belt, fuel pump, tires, changing/flushing every fluid, etc. (to say nothing of playing hide-&-seek with five years of accumulated cobwebs!). She'll likely become the wife's daily driver when completed. Having looked over your forum, the info is nicely presented and well organized, so I'm sure that I'll be taking advantage of the base of knowledge, information, and expertise represented here. Having recently retired, my toy collection continues to grow and it's nice to have the time to get into a project such as this.
As part of getting her ready for the road, pull the cam cover on either head and inspect the secondary timing chain tensioners to see if they've been replaced with the latest metal ones. If not, replace the primary and secondary timing chains guides and tensioners as failure is more a function of the number of cold to hot to cold cycles and time rather than mileage.
