Default newbie

so i bought my first british car, first "old" car, first JAG and i am excited
i got what i consider a good deal, 1988 XJ6 Vanden Plas 145,000 miles the exterior is real good 8/10 interior is ok 5/10 wood cracked and peeling carpet is a mess and dash is crackin a lil however leather is mint. any ways the bad thing is it starts and dies, my father think is bad gas mixed with bad fuel pump. bought it for $400 wich is less than what i pay a month for either of my other 2 cars wich are a 09 Acura TL and 09 Acura RDX. dont understand why im in love with this car (wich my wife dont like the looks of and she doesnt know yet the car is not running) she has started calling me an old man lol im 23 the same age as the car so she thinks i have lost my mind.

so theres that i hope to have her back on the road asap! my questions as newbie and please just post links and guide me the right way are

1. where is the fuel pump located on this car? (ordered the book but i cant wait to get it i "NEED" this car)

2. is it true that if the car has a J on the vin number i believe on the 4 or 5th digit is actuall a 1989? didnt make sense to me but thats what seller told me (get parts for 1989 even tho the car titles says 1988) confusing if u ask me

3. where can i get the wood replacement pieces?

4. where can i get the floormats?

thats it for right now and i am so excited to b part of this forum! cant wait to drive this classy to work!!! thanks for reading and please help

Welcome to the forum,

You should head over to the XJ6 section and ask your tech questions.
I hope you can win the wife round!

Welcome to the forum, as per Norri check out the XJ6 section, great guys over there, also have a look in the XJ6 FAQ you will find Vin decoding info.

And if you don't mind me saying, point out to your wife that having a non running old Jag that is going to be occupying your spare time, is probably far far better than some other activities that a 23yr chap could be up to

welcome to the forum lazzytan, good to have you here.
Try checking out youtube and type in "wheeler dealers / xjs".......they renovate one for selling one and renew some of the wood around the shifter........cool vids with good info

You might find the off topic good for fun, maybe check out the mug shot thread and add yours?

Some really good guys and great techs, top vendors offering good pricing levels and great service, and more to come....all good

In the meantime I've upgraded you manually to full forum access so you can better view the site
