Default Newbie desiring Jag ownership

Greetings from West Michigan. I was happy to find this forum as I am contemplating getting into XK8 ownership. Aside from driving two vintage American cars (Lincoln and Thunderbird) I am a former Saab owner and currently have a Chrysler Crossfire in the garage. In all cases forums have been instrumental in helping me find and maintain the right vehicle. I am hoping for the same from this forum. Let the learning begin!

Welcome to the forum. The best place to look for your Jag, in my opinion, is Autotrader. There are plenty of other sites to look at as well, but, autotrader seems to have the best selection. I just bought my xk8 off of them. Only problem is, I have to go to North Carolina to get it. ha Cars.com and cargurus isn't bad either. Good luck in your search.

Welcome to the forum 62thunderbird,

I wonder what year your T'Bird is.

You've got the Jaguar itch and come to the right place to scratch it. Follow this link XK8 / XKR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum for help and advice. A good place to start is the HOW TO section at the top of the threads there.

The XK8 was produced from 1996 to 2005 and there's particular issues to watch out for depending on whether you go for an early or later model.

Is there a post or link that describes the differences in the model years? I have been advised to stay with the 4.2 engine which puts me in the 2003 and up models, but am unsure as to the other differences (both mechanically and styling) in the later years.

Ken,

That gets you beyond the regular issues with the 4.0 litre and into the reliability of the later spec.

The big choice now comes down to the first ones the 5-speed or later ones with the 6-speed transmission. Beyond that there's a host of options to consider.

Best plan is to post the question on XK8/XKR section which should bring back what's available and a stack of opinions on what to look for and what to avoid.

Check your regional section for nearby members. Nothing beats being able to compare cars directly and talk about them with enthusiast owners.

Graham
