No Longer a BMW Lover

I am a new member. I have owned BMW's since 1980 but Chris Bangle's BMW designs led me to look elsewhere and I found a lovely 05 XJR, British Racing Green in color, on Ebay with 27,500 miles and a year and a half warranty left. I have put 1000 miles on it in the past week and so far it has been perfect. Did I mention that this car is FAST?!
I'd love to hear from others who have owned BMW's and made the transition. Especially would I appreciate hearing plus and minus comparisons. I am also curious about why Jaguars depreciate so significantly. They certainly provide great values in a used car!
I would only add that I also love old cars, car shows, and car auctions. I have proudly driven a 1968 Merc 280SL for the past 12 years.
Happy to be part of the Forum. Thanks for listening!

Welcome and congrats on a great car. The reason they depreciate so quickly is because of who has owned us for the past 18 years...FORD! Now that TATA owns us though, it's sure to get worse at first and I expect a decent recovery in the upcoming future.
Welcome. I tooled around with a 1985 380sl for 15 years. SL's are terrific. pre Bangle BMW's are good looking cars bur I think Jaguars have more soul no matter which model.

Jaguars really don't depreciate any quicker than other cars. What you have to bear in mind is that Jag didn't have the lower line until five years ago or so. Think about the upper end of the "kraut" cars. The upper end BMW, MB, Rolls, Bentley, Aston Martin, Italian cars all fall quickly in price. That's because if you can afford the $70k for a used one, odds are you will spend the extra $10k and buy a new one. So, to meet the market, the price falls off rather quickly to find the buyer. I suppose it says more about us that buy high end used cars than about the cars themselves.
I prefer the Jags over the German cars. I don't deny that the German cars are more reliable. It's just that they are boring. If the Jag and BMW built a pinball machine the Jag machine would come with sexy girls and all sorts of bells and whistles and sirens. The BMW machine would have a plunger and a hole for the ball to fall into. It would be no fun, but it would work everytime!

That is the freakin best analogy discribing autombiles that I have ever come across. Did you think this up by yourself or borrow from a poet?LOL
But, youre right my wifes E320 (95) gets you going all the time, plenty pf pep, good gas mileage. The Stype 4.0 needs more maintenance but gets you going with a lot more fun and panache (hope I spe;;ed that right)
