Default NOOB in the upper midwest Fond du Lac Wisconsin USA

Greetings all.

I'm Gary. Just purchased my first Jag just a few weeks ago. It's a 2005 XK8 convertible, tan over BRG. Car had <50,000 miles and I am the 4th owner.

Just got back from taking the car on a 2000+ mile road trip from home (in Wisconsin, USA - about 2 hours north of Chicago) to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and back. We had a 'little' excitement enroute (a cruise/DSC issue) and I posted in the forum looking for help. Many thanks to Mod GGG and the others who responded to my plea. The problem (low voltage?) seems to have cured itself, and the wife and I made the return trip w/o incident.

The Jag is my 'dream car'; I've wanted one since I was 10. While other boys of my generation had posters of Raquel Welch etc on their bedroom walls, I had ones of E-types, the convertible and the 2+2, in BRG.

I blame my not quite obsession with 'Brit iron' on a cousin, He was much older, a beat-nik (Google it) and lived with my family for a while. He wrenched on Jags and Triumphs at a local dealer a few blocks from our house, He would come home for lunch, often with one of the dealer cars, (XK 120's, 40's and TR 2"s) and would take me for a quick ride through a nearby park. I've been hooked ever since.

While this is my first Jag, I've also owned a '69 Mk IV A-H Sprite (Spridget) and a 'poor man's' XKE 2+2 - a '71 Triumph GT6+. Over the years have also owned a '76 Fiat 128, '79 Saab 99, then a series of domestic mini vans as the family was too large for sedans, a VW Passat diesel (miss that car). Current stable holds a 2010 Honda Insight II, (dullest car on the planet, rusty, but reliable as sunrise, and extremely low cost to own) a '76 Volvo XC70, and... now the Jag.

Am looking forward to being part of the group, and hope I will be able to help others like I was helped last week.

OABTW if anyone is in the area, and attends the vintage weekends at Road America and wants to meet up, PM me. I am usually there along with a couple motor-head friends.

Gary

Welcome again Gary,

Good to know the three of you and the XK8 are safely home. It was not the kind of excitement you should expect from a Jaguar trip.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-midwest-39/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
