Default The only cars I've ever loved

Been reading and browsing as a guest for some time now, and happy to see all the expertise and advice on the forum. Hope to have the chance to interact with many of you in the future!

As an introduction, I'm a (hopefully) soon to be first-time Jag owner, though I have wanted one for as long as I remember. Long were the hours I spent years ago reading the old jag-lovers JagCare guides. As the title implies, cars in general never interested me, captured or held my attention…except for Jaguars. Though the XK8 stole my heart for awhile pre-2000, I'm back to the XJ line at the moment.

In my personal opinion, the exterior styling peaked with either the Series III XJ or the x308, and the interior peaked with the x350. While I'd love to have the x350 interior, at this point I just can't yet get over the exterior lines (though I do like the larger outer headlamps.)

So, I'm currently looking around North America for a good x308. I'm searching for a 2000-2003 S/C VDP, so technically a Super V8, though I know an early one would just be badged a VDP and a mid-run one would have the VDP S/C badging.

Based on many experiences I've read here and elsewhere, 2002-3 would be preferable to not have to worry about chain, tensioner and Nikasil issues, though I'd be fine with a 2000-1 if it had good documented service history. I'm pretty deadset on having a black interior and a bit more flexible on the exterior, though I'd prefer grey, black, or blue. Since the S/C VDPs were not produced in such high numbers to begin with, I'm not even sure how many were produced in the color combination I'd like. It seems like the black interior was generally not so common before the x350.

If anyone has any leads on where I might find a good candidate, please let me know. I've scoured eBay, autotrader, cars.com, craigslist and kijiji, so please don't spend any time searching there on my behalf, though I see from previous posts that some of you are kind enough to do so for new folks. Someone might know of a less publicly advertised option, though, so please let me know if so…I'd appreciate it.

Thanks for reading my long intro, and happy to be here!

Hi Lirgo,
Welcome, I see your taste is unquestionable as I indeed seek (one fine day) an XJ of that era, I love the XJR 350 and I will find one, definately as I can compare that beautiful, sleek, and most refined and powerful cat with nothing else! The X308 to me is timeless and poetry, beauty and grace encapsulated in one car, quite simply. I do not have one at the moment but, I am bitten and smitten by the Jaguar brand and to be honest, only a Jaguar will turn my eye and keep it mesmerised as I see other cars and they just don't cut it!
God speed your quest and don't spare the horses, Good Luck
Stu
