I have just purchased a Jaguar X-Type 2.0 Litre Diesel. Which I am having a few problems with. It's blowing black smoke and losing power.many ideas what this could be?

This section is really for Intros and your technical question may get overlooked. Best to post it on the X-Type or General Tech Help sections to get wider input and a faster response.

As the vehicle is new to you, do you know it's been serviced regularly / recently? Something as simple as a blocked air filter can result in black smoke.

I do know the X-Type Diesel has a bit of a reputation for EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve failure but owners on the X-Type section will have more knowledge and information on this.
