Default Radio intermittent

Hi
I have a 96 x type sport 2.5v6 and no manual
My radio sound goes off intermittently. I have searched this forum and someone suggested turning off alt freq as the problem is that the radio constantly searches for the best signal

unfortunately the pressing pre set 8 button doesn't work on my car, as per the instructions, can anyone help?

Welcome. That's really annoying isn't it! You can't turn the radio up to drown out the other noises because it turns itself off! Or.... Maybe it's an omen?
Hope you get it ironed out and get back to enjoying it.
