Default Reintroduction

It's been awhile since I've been on this forum. I quit checking in when I had to get rid of my beloved 1999 XJR.

I have the opportunity to purchase a Lincoln LS with the V8 engine for $400-$500. It is a running, driving car. I will be looking at it after work today. A couple of the windows don't work, and it has a clunk underneath (something I will be checking out when I look at the car tonight).

I know that the LS is basically a Jaguar S-Type with a different body. Is there anything I should look for specifically when I inspect the car? Does the 3.9L in the Lincoln have the same issues with the timing tensioner as the Jaguar 4.0L does?

Welcome back Chad,

I have to confess my total ignorance regarding the Lincoln LS ( ) but I'm sure US members will have the answers.

Hope it checks out OK.

Graham

I'm thinking I am going to pass on the LS. It is in pretty rough shape. The engine runs great, but the dashboard says "Check transmission". Considering the car has a salvage title, two damaged doors, and a rust hole over the left rear wheel, I am not about to do any transmission work on it... lol.

If I can pick it up for $100, I might get it as a project for my 15 year old son. I don't think my friend's girlfriend will sell it that cheap, though...

Whatever the model, that's often the start of very expensive repairs.
