Hi all,
I joined the forum as a proud owner of a 1988 Jaguar. It was my first luxury car, and by far my favorite I have driven. I loved the all metal body, the fierce look of the flatter hood with the round headlights, and even the digital instrumentation that everyone abhors.

Unfortunately I was in a high speed collision over the weekend and my kitty is no longer purring and will likely never see the glory of a full restoration.

I'm looking into other options, but I'm not sure it'll be a Jaguar. Though I would like it to. The newer ones don't appeal to me as much. My favorites are the Series III XJ6, and the XJ40 that I owned.

I've been considering re-buying the same car or hunting for the classic, but at my budget, I can only afford modest repairs every few months. If you guys have any recommendations for cars with similar bodies, or round headlights, please let me know.

None the less, I'll be around, Jaguar is easily my favorite design model. Right next to old muscle cars and fancy British luxury cars, or as I call them 'Bond type cars', Jaguars are neck and neck.

Glad to finally introduce myself,
have wonderful day and I'll see you guys around.

Check out non-jaguars for a discussion on easy to repair, own, and maintain cars I'll be considering. Be posting that this Saturday.

Thanks again for all the help and support!

Are you alright?? Cars of the 1980s were not known for their occupant safety in a crash, especially a high speed crash. The fact you're looking for another XJ40 says you're probably more or less OK, for which I'm very glad!

Probably your best option for finding another classic Jag would be Craigs List or similar.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome.

The XJ40 would be a good replacement as you know that model very well.

The X300 would definately be on MY list of lookers.

The S3 could be outside the budget you indicated.

Welcome to the forum Hollowitz,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. Sorry to hear about the collision.

I can see you're already finding your way around so there's no need for links from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top of each model forum is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I'm doing quite alright. Just lots of paperwork as you could probably guess. I'm considering another one, but mainly just keeping my eyes peeled for good pulls in my area of Portland here in the NW.

I would love a Series III, and would probably be the only other consideration aside from a perhaps a new XJR or X300 if I found it on a deal. I really loved the XJ40 but only time will tell.

I'm not ruling out other cars either, BMW E30 is one on my radar, but I still want a jag. Part of me is considering getting a beater and saving for a Series III.

From forum postings (and my own experience), the X300 is the most reliable of the models you are considering.

I guess I have to put the obvious comment in here. The xj40 is not that hard to find Yet and they are not usually too expensive. Mine are very good cars, despite the one being very abused. I would look for another if I suddenly had a lot of parts. I tend to use the adage of If it calls you, buy it. Good luck and get what you want.
