Second XJ40 finally joined forum
Hello all!
I had a 1987 XJ40 while living in Lee's Summit, Missouri in 2008. My then fiancé persuaded me to trade my Ford F150 truck for it. Had very few problems with it, very affordable and economical. Took her to Marshalltown Iowa several times. Then I stupidly sold it and got a fixer up 74 Mercedes SLC, which I could not afford to run. I did learn about the value of technical forums on that car and later with a Mercedes 400E.
I lucked out and won a bid on eBay for my current 1988 XJ40 and was able to dig it out of a back yard and drive it 160 miles home a year ago. I replaced the headliner and stopped and let it sit for a year till my micro car Geo Metro started having problems. I put some new tires on and found the XJ40 to be roadworthy except for rear tail lights which I have tried to re-solder and failed. I will be fixing or replacing the cabin fan ( which J & S Import Car Service in Kansas City, MO did for me on the 87 ), the radio, and the shock bushings. I also hope to deal with the dreaded peeling clear coat on its Crimson Metallic CFF paint.
