Default Should I buy or not?

Hello people,
I'm considering buying myself an xj8 and i just wondered if any one could give me a few pointers and genuine advice please.
The car I'm considering is a early 2005 on a 54reg with 68,000 miles on. It's a 3.5 auto sport trim in black with black leather, clean condition with jag history I'm told but yet to see the car . I'm looking to pay about £6500 for the car.

Are there any weak spots on this model ? Any things to check? Do these cars have cambelts fitted?

If I've asked any daft questions forgive me but I know nothing about jags.

Thanks for any advice given.

Welcome to the forum,

Good to have you with us.
For specific info you should head on over and ask in the tech section.

If you haven't already done so you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Hi-

Welcome to the site. The XJ8 is an absolutely excellent motor and 68K miles is 'nothing' given routine maintenance, much of which is DIY. Have it inspected professionally, and check with Jag for the car's build info and history and you'll be all set.

Welcome to the forum.

Good to see you.

Check out the X350 section (covers that year). The engine should not be an issue if well maintained, but you certainly need to check suspension maintenance, if you have to change the air springs, then double your purchase price.

Welcome,

As others have advised, go to the section on the forum for this model and check issues other owners have found.

It's a lot of car for very little money but check out the service history and mechanical condition thoroughly.

Welcome to the Forum, a helpful, well informed & friendly place. The XJ8 that you are considering has 68,000 on it. Have read of a Member in New York I think, his has 220,000 on it & still going like a bird. So 68,000 not bad that's slightly less than average mileage of 10/12,500 a year.

I agree with good advice of others.
Translator identified suspension check, expensive to fix.

Mikey advises get it professionally checked.
Good advice & not as expensive as you may think. Only things that I can add are, Have it inspected before you buy. Consider using a Jag Specialist, Why? because they are very familiar with these cars & what to look for. Even a good general garage may struggle to do inspection as well as a Jag Specialist.

I can tell you that there are three in & around Dorset. They would be able to answer all your questions & should you buy the car will cost less than Main Dealer on servicing & repairs.

Hope all goes well for you.

Roger.
